Here's a listing of the most commonly used choke tubes. In progressive order, the top of the list are the most open chokes giving the widest (most sparse) pattern. The bottom of the list have the tightest restriction for the most dense pattern.

modified
improved modified
full
extra full

Use the one that fits your purpose. If hunting quail or grouse, you'd be at or near the top of the list. The same for home defense or skeet. If hunting turkey, you'd be at or near bottom of list. Do a web search for "shotgun choke tubes", and you'll find more than you want to know.

 

light modified is a popular choke as well

If you're using this for home defense, a cylinder choke would be ideal. I use cylinder chokes for skeet, and Skeet/IC for trap.

 

Used modified for slugs today, worked fine. Thanks for the info guys.
