Well, this is it for me being a costumer at Ed's Gun Shop in Vass! I had a Kel-Tec PMR-30 on order since 01-09-11 with the price @ "$369 if you wait". Ed called & emailed wanting to know if I was still interested? I called & emailed that my response is yes, please let me know when it comes in and I'll be right up to make the purchase. I get the call right after lunch today that the pistol is in. I ride up and went inside the gun room to be waited on. Ed's in a conversation with another gentleman just BSing about the price of a house in NY and the other guys at the counter just keep doing what ever. No one asked can I help you with anything... that's even after standing at the counter for 10 minutes! I noticed one of the guys go sit at the other end of the counter looking right at me never said a word. I walked over to tell him who I was and I'm there to buy the Kel-Tec I had on order. He goes to the back and brings it out and says it $399. I said no, the forum has it listed at $369 if you wait. He said NO, IT'S $399! I turned to ask Ed about the price and he says yea, it's $399 now just because they are so hard to find now. I'm in shock that he said that to me & mentioned the forum where he said if you wait $369. He said well, it's $399 now. I told him to pass it along to the next guy at the $30 increase. Needless to say he lost a long time costumer! Oh, and when I post in his forum about what happened to me to let others know....he just deletes the post.... just so you all know! That's lame!

Oh, and by the way... this post I put up a while back happened at Ed's too.

I hate to hear that. I don't buy from him anymore but my dad and I have bought numerous guns in the past. Sucks that he did that.
I don't know what it is about shops, they don't seem to care. Not all but some.
Thanks for posting this tho, even if no one every has a bad experience with them, they should know the good, the bad and definitely the ugly about what goes on in the gun community.

Ed's has always been first rate to me and I drive from Raleigh quite regularly to do business with him. It is not many places you can call and ask them to hold a gun for you and they do it with no questions asked. I have not done business with everyone in the area, but for me he has the best prices, service and selection within my driving distance. Sorry you had a problem, seems out of character for Ed's based on my experiences.

I have been shopping there many years. I know exactly how they can be. I won't say I won't buy from them at all, but I know exactly what I want and what I will pay for it before I go.

I have been so pissed off when I went there before I could scream.

I have also gotten some decent deals. I just keep em at arms length you know what I mean?

I know what you mean... I've experienced similar things too. All the other times I've felt pissed is from the workers. Today it came straight out of his mouth! Guess I'm still in shock!

Another thing that bugs me is if you post something negative in his forum he will delete the post. Guess he wants to make it look like everything is just fine.... not. Here's a post that he keeps deleting.

"Ed, I think that was horrible customer service you displayed today! You had ample & multiple times to tell me of the price change but you waited until I came in the store to make me aware of the change. It use to be a 45 minute drive for me to your store.... I am no longer a customer of yours and will tell everyone I meet to avoid your establishment!

You were a hell of a lot better when you had a small business!"

I've purchased several firearms from Ed. I couldn't ask for a better person to do business with. Even at the large gunshows Eddie always goes out of is way to help his customers. Sorry you had a bad experience, but Ed is one businessman that I have great respect for.
I was a customer of Ed's for over 27 years. With that said I can tell you for a fact that I've had good experiences too but here of late not so. If you read my other post http://carolinashootersforum.com/showthread.php?t=99060 you will see I had respect for him as well and would not release his name because of one of his employees actions.

Hope you continue to be treated well!

Sandman I'm usually skeptical of posts that air grievances on-line with a gun shop, but you were a class-act about your situation in your March/April thread, and I respect that a lot. Bit twice now, it was time to name the shop. Seems you are the kind of guy who tempers your reactions to irritation and measures your responses to it admirably. Kudos for that.

I haven't bought from Ed in years, but in the olden days he seemed to have his best deals during gun shows and was always willing to beat anyone in pricing.

It is a shame he jacked the price under the guise the gun is hard to come by. That really stinks. I hope you find one for the $369 or less.

It continues to amaze me how many businesses out there just don't know how to communicate effectively. This issue could have easily been avoided if Ed had just updated his forum posting earlier or let you know of the price change before having you drive in. The reasoning that he now has on his forum makes sense in that Kel-tec raised their prices to the dealers and would not honor the old pricing. With the demand for the PMR I do give Ed credit for not charging any more than he is for them, but fully agree that for the small price difference it would have made more sense to just make it right for a customer that had already waited a while to receive it and was there in the store ready to buy.

I have bought almost exclusively from Ed's at the Greensboro gun show until last year when he had an MSAR STG-556 listed at $1,039 on his website, and said it would be at the show. I went with cash in hand to find it at $1,199. When I told them the site said something else, I was told "sorry, take it or leave it". Won't buy there again.

Thank you Sir. I know it's hard to build up a good name and I hesitate making negative comments.

I agree... could have been handled better. His post on his forum was when he realized he needed to do damage control. I believe some but not all his post... unless he changed it again. lol

Sorry to hear about your experience. I have never had any problem with Ed or his staff or his products or prices. Ed is very personable, his staff seems, well let's just say, aloof, and somewhat superior, but when you get their attention they are helpful, but that is just my take. I don't go to any business with my money to make friends or swap spit. I go to gun shops knowing what I want and what I will pay. I don't ask their advise because when I have, they generally, not all, are not knowledgeble or are trying to sell me on something I am not looking for. I have observed that most gun shop employees seem to give pretty good info and choices to new shooters trying to figure out what's for them.

Gun shops are no different than any other business these days...I really wonder how most businesses stay in business. Employee product knowledge seems poor and they seem to have poor people skills...soooooooooo....buyer be prepared, buyer be informed...and we do have choices.

I pm'd ED 6 months ago looking for an SR9C. ( this was going to be my first gun purchase ever ) I was blown away when he replied to my email within 15 minutes!

I was ready to buy a pistol there, ( I used to work in Sanford and Southern Pines) till a friend warned me he had had a really bad experience and recommended I find another shop. So I talked to a buddy in Sanford and he said they would eventually ''screw you'' .

Needless to say, that scared me off- so I bought my first gun in Greensboro, and 8 more since then , 4 from a local shop, rest private sales.

I cannot really offer an opinion first-hand on this, but I will say stories like this are too common about Ed's shop.

Sandman---
I do not know Ed's Gun shop. Heck, to be honest, I don't know where Vass, NC is! LOL

BUT things like this PISS me off too. It's about PRINCIPLE!!! You don't treat customers like that!!! I'd rather pay $30 MORE just so he doesn't get my business if I were in your situation!
I thank you for your warning!
