I have some take off barrels from some pistols I had replaced with kkm barrels when they were new. So, these are pretty much new barrels minus factory shot. The coating on them is new and is a Titanium Nitride like you see from many of these high end custom shops. The coated protects the exterior of the barrels and hardens the surface making your barrels last much long and protecting it against slide wear. You will see these coatings on other things such as drill bits, machining tools to extend the life of them.
