I'm looking for the guy that was selling reloaded ammo at that show. He was about one aisle over from JT with Paracord Joe's. I bought 500 rounds of .40 and I can't shoot them, they aren't sized right. I don't have any contact info for him. I'm hoping someone knows him?

Yikes- I dunno if I'd try to fix them- who knows what powder they are loaded with, etc.

Any markings on the brass?

Sorry for your hassle- to be honest- exactly why I'd never buy reloaded ammo from someone unknown.... I'd rather shoot cheap Russian crap ....

Oh wow, that is not what I expected. That is unacceptable. Hope you can find the guy!

Do you have your own reloading setup? If it was me I'd just seat them right and fire away.

Or find the guy and get my dang money back!
Without knowing the powder and charge he used to load the ammo that could be dangerous. One can assume that these are loaded with an appropriate powder and charge for plinking and that they aren't sensitive to seating depth of the bullet........but that's a pretty big assumption when youre the one behind the trigger........

Umm... before doing that, I'd pull at least one to make sure it's not an overcharge condition and maybe have a chance of identifing what kind of powder was being used. I'd be wary, just to be cautious.

Sorry you had the problem. I know it sucks because it brings into suspect the whole lot. It may be a simple mistake, it might be a bad one. Other's reloads are always a concern for me.

Yeah, lesson learned. I was having a rough day and thought I'd go to the range at lunch and punch some holes in paper. I walked in right after a guy had a AD in the lobby and then my ammo wouldn't load. I gave up and went back to the office.

Yeah I was thinking the same thing. Probably better off selling them as components.

But I've heard to people loading 40sw long, for use in 10mm guns with a conversion barrel.

If the powder charge is correct though, seating it to the correct OAL will not hurt anything. If he mixed up the powder charge, he shouldn't have been selling reloaded ammo at all.

Is there another show nearby soon? (Greensboro or something)?

You might find them traveling the circuit. I'd be happy to look for them at the next Dixie show here in Raleigh, but I don't think it's for another few months :-(

I hope it wasnt the guy from SC

I bought a bunch of 40s at the Concord gun show. I have that guys card if iet was him.

Are the boxes red with no top label?

Bad 40 S/W ammo

You should be able to contact the Dixie Knife and Gun owners (look up their website/link on Google) and tell them of you problem. They can tell you who had any table in the show ( describe as you did ......next to/ close to.......such and such table) and might under these circumstances give you their contact info. if you get this info that's good, getting satisfaction from a "done deal" such as this might not be easy. The Dixie Knife and Gun folks WOULD want to know of any dealer or seller at one of their shows who might not be on the up and up.
Good luck.

That doesn't make any sense. Any 40S&W round that is too long is not going to chamber in a 40S&W barrel, whether it is a conversion barrel or not. It doesn't matter what the gun platform is.
What he was saying is that it did not fit the guys 40 cal mag but will fit in the 10 mm mag.
I did not read that he tried to chamber a round and fire it.

Many Match rounds for rifles may be too long to fit the mags but will fit in a chamber.
My PSS 223 and 308 are that way and also some of my handguns. The gun will shoot better with the round seated out more but will not feed in the action or mag.
I have two sets of rounds for my Henry 44-40 that I shoot for matches, one is slow fire loaded way out, other loaded to work in the lever action for the speed shooting.
Same with the 45-70....

Ya, I would pull em and reload them myself... No way I would trust the powder on those if he managed to screw up the OAL that way.
I have never trusted reloads in the 40/10mm due to the fact they are loaded with the same powders (type), and same dies for both, just change the depth.... If he screwed up the OAL then did he remember to change the powder to match the 40, or 10mm?
You may have the new 40 cal mags, I hear they work great but the gun will only handle a few rounds.......

Never shoot reloads that they do not have all there info printed on the boxes.
GOt to ask, what is your life worth? saving a few $ on some unknown reloads.

Learn to reload or get the big brands that will stand behind them.
