I've been trying to setup an AR to do some competitive shooting and finally got everything together. I took it to some land I have with a berm and setup a 50yd range. I started sighting in the scope shooting pairs off of a tool bag, and had to walk the 50yds to check the target after each pair. I could cover each pair with a single IDPA paster, so since I only had 2 full 20rd mags with me I decided to stop wasting ammo and just took single shots after that. I sighted in the red dot standing unsupported at an estimated 15-18yds with pairs also with pretty much the same results so went back to single shots with it. That's pretty good for me, so I just had to brag and now I'm ready to rock and roll! I just have to find the time and money for ammo, lol.

The AR:
Rock River lower
Vltor EMOD stock
Stag CL 1/9 16" upper
Midwest Industries free float rail
BCM M16 BCG
Levang linear compensator < reduces sound to the shooter and may increase accuracy but will also probably increase recoil so I may change it if I get serious
VTAC sling

Optics:
Cheap red dot micro reflex < waiting on Primary Arms to get their micro green dot back in stock
Sightmark 1.5-5x FFP Tactical < a chinese assembled scope with clear Japanese glass, we'll see how long it lasts.

I'm using a 45 degree offset rail which is mounted to the top rail. I had to use a riser on the main scope to keep it's huge windage turret from obstructing my view of the red dot, but it also puts it at a nice comfortable height. Now I'm finding that the red dot, although usable, needs to be raised a little too because to get a sight picture I have to get my face uncomfortably low on the buttstock. Since both optics will be raised 45 degrees out of plane I'm hopeful that the scope turret won't continue to be a problem.

are you a lefty?
No, why? The ambi safety?

Regarding the safety, if you have a sharp eye you'll notice that the gun cannot be fired in it's current configuration. I'm using an over molded grip with a finger swell that gives me a longer reach to the trigger that works great for me because I have large hands. The lower came with the ambi safety installed and I have to remove the lever on the right side to use it with that grip. I'd like to find just a round cover that would replace that lever but I guess I'm going to have to replace the whole safety.
