Some of you may have read in my Ruger SR1911 CMD thread that I am changing a lot of the black small parts to stainless. The gun was awesome out of the box, but I just decided I didn't like the two-toned look. I have replaced several parts with S/S Wilson Combat pieces, but have gotten down to the last few pieces and decided to go a little different route. Instead of buying replacement parts and worry about fitting them to my gun I just sent the original grip safety, hammer w/ strut, ejector, and extractor to Metaloy Industries to have them hard chromed. I have had several conversations with Chris Peters (President) at Metaloy and feel that their process will work just fine for my purposes. The finish will be a matte silver that I think will be pretty close to the stainless look, and their process doesn't alter the dimensions of the part, so fitment should be fine.

Anyone here had experiences with Metaloy? My "discussions" with Chris were through email. He was very timely with his replies and was exceptionally tolerant of my multiple questions! Here is a link to their website:

Oh yea...the total cost for me to get the parts hard chromed is $44 + return shipping. I'll also post up pictures of the parts when I get them back, as well as after installation,

Here is a before picture. The MSH, thumb safety, slide release, mag catch, and pins have already been upgraded.....

They have a great reputation.

Have you considered having all of the original small parts chromed? I'd be a little concerned about the look of three different finishes on the gun, well just a little.

I don't know about Metaloy, but previous experiences with Metalife have been good. I've had many friends in the past use them for complete revolvers and were very happy. I touched base with them the other day because of a recent post were someone used them. I wanted to make sure they were the same Metalife I remembered from years back, in the 80's and they are.

I saw on another forum where someone did something similar and it was barely noticeable. I was a little concerned about that but I think since it will only be the parts visible from the back (grip safety not so much) that it will minimize the impact....I HOPE!!

All the parts on the side of the gun have already been replaced with Wilson Combat S/S parts. Here is a side shot..

Got the parts back from Metaloy yesterday. Took right at a week to get the parts back. I took a couple of pictures of the parts before installing them but they turned out way too blurry. All I have is the gun with the parts installed. A little difference is appearance from the stainless, but nothing I can't live with. VERY impressed with the quality of workmanship and service from Metaloy!

Thanks everyone! I might change to night sights down the road, but for now it is firmly in the carry rotation!
