For the money, Vortex is great, especially because of the warranty. Someone did a comparison review and the Strike Fire matched well with the Aimpoint PRO. I 'like' EOTech, and they are fine for what they are, but there's a reason many departments and agencies have switched. They can be ...'finicky.' I have not used a PA, but I have read good things about them as well, and they tend to be a bit cheaper than Vortex.

Problem I have with the Vortex Red Dots is that they Mount the controls in a way that protrudes off the left side of the optic. Red Dots are meant to be shot with both eyes open. Mounting the controls where they did places them slightly in the line of sight of the left eye for right handed shooters. This indirectly encourages shooting with one eye closed like its a scope. I get the feeling the designers were accustomed to designing scopes and didn't really understand the concept of keeping both eyes open. Its an issue to me, however I recognize that for the vast majority of hobby shooters its no big issue since many shoot with one eye closed anyways.

I have no problem looking past a Vortex with both eyes open. The bulb is noticeable, like the faint smudge the front sight creates in a scope on an AR, but that is about it. At very close distance, like 8 feet or less, it is more pronounced, but since I am looking through the red dot with my dominant eye to begin with, the bulb is just obscuring some of my left eye vision. It doesn't force me to close that eye and like most anything else, you get used to it.

It is kind of like having a flashlight on the rifle. You don't look at the flashlight when you are shooting, you don't look at the red dot body either.

Look at Aimpoint! A used Aimpoint is better than the other option you have outlined.
