I’m a little new to AR’s and would like some advice on the proper way to hold the lower in a vice while loosening the castle nut on the buffer tube. I have a Stag lower with the end plate staked in two places, the stakes are light and I have lessened them some with a 3/32” punch. When I put the lower in a vice using a magazine well vice block and put the wrench to it there looked like there would be a considerable amount of twisting force transferred through the lower. Is there a better way to hold the lower in a vice or am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks

Get the clamping type of vise block instead of the magwell vise block if you are that concerned. You probably don't really need to spend the money for it though.
Just for fun....I use a vise not a vice for mine ;joint

Vice = a moral flaw or immoral behavior. Also a minor bad habit

Vise = a tool usually mounted on a tool bench that can be opened and closed to clamp or hold something.

They don't make a clamp style for the lower, that I am aware of. That should be the first clue that there is nothing wrong with using the magwell block.

They may have used locktite as well as the staking. Maybe try to heat up the nut some before trying to break it loose in the block. The tubes shouldnt be done up to more that i believe is it ~40 ft lbs. or inch pounds. dont remember.

Thanks...

for the replies. I'll give it another try on the floor.

Shooting is my vice, I spend so much it must be immoral.
Could you give me some info on the clamping style, I haven't seen any for a lower.

;joint How'd you know?
