My friend and I both shoot .40 caliber and since I started to reload, the more I read the more I'm getting a 2nd though of not to do it. First is the bulge, my M&P is fully supported. I just tested it matter of fact, the xd I'm not sure about.

How many times can the 40 brass be reused?

I would think using a resizing die that re-sizes the entire brass casing would weaken it? I use mostly Speer and federal brass, I've been told these are nice sturdy brass.

When I reload 40 I do it about 4 or 5 times. Usually after that many times the brass has stretched (became longer) and the side walls have began to become weak. They make a case trimmer for pistol rounds but for me 4 reloads on pistol brass is plenty. If i have to trash a batch, then I go pick up some plinking rounds and use the brass from them. Hope this helps. YMMV

Best to full size it and remove the bulge else you will have problems chambering it. No need for any special dies as any state deed die will remove the bulge if set up properly. I only load my .40 brass 3-4 times or so since its so easy to pick up for free. I also don't make it a habit of loading up to max since I just load plinking ammo. Most lagoons you hear of stemmed from reloaded ammo that was either overcharged or just a hot load in old/weak brass.
