I'm thinking about buying one to SBR and suppress. Don't expect that I'd ever buy a drop in auto sear, but you never know.

Have never fired one, but like the idea of a 9mm carbine.

Obviously have to buy used and am wondering if you would share your thoughts on what you'd consider if shopping for one.

BTW, if someone here has one to sell pls PM!

Thanks all,
Jim

If I was gonna spend that type of money I'd buy a Kriss. I've shot a one and as with most HK products your paying for the name and a bit of cool/rare factor. All in all nice guns but go for more than it's actually worth.

I happen to think the Kriss is unattractive and I've heard that they are fiddly although I admit that's probably just internet noise. I like that they announced a 9mm version, but that was 2010 or so and I still don't think it's out and don't see it on their website. Going to .45 requires another pistol caliber can and I'm trying to avoid that just because.

Before someone jumps in with 9mm AR, I do like that idea but think that I'll get better suppressed performance and second shot accuracy from the delayed vs straight blowback. If I'm wrong or if the differences are immaterial then please do comment.

Finally, yeah a lot of the price for the HK is for the brand and the relative scarcity of the guns, I should have bought one when they were on the shelves!

Jim, if you SBR an HK 94 be sure to use a gunsmith that is familiar with setting the head spacing correctly. The barrels are a pinned, press fit and require special tooling for removal. Head spacing is critical for reliable operation on them.

I love the Hk94, and owned one for a few years. They are a blast to shoot and usually do nothing but go up in value. That being said, they bring a premium price.

Here was mine.. It was a ID date code and number 515 built. It was an early production HK94.

I doubt a lot of people do. They are expensive. Very expensive for what they are. At this point I think I'd just buy a good clone w/ a 3-lug barrel already on it. That's what I had for a while until I sold it. I just preferred my 9mm AR setup. I think it shot better and smoother. Both were perfectly reliable...just what I thought. Still have my HK93 and HK91 in the safe though. :)

Jim, an SBR 94 is basically a semi auto MP5. They are a very sweet shooting gun and an excellent suppressor host due to the delayed roller block bolt system. If I were to do what you are considering, rather than shortening the 94 barrel I would simply acquire a 3 lug MP 5 barrel and have an HK qualified gunsmith install it to make your SBR. There is a slight difference in the receiver where the trigger group attaches, but other than that the MP5 and 94 receivers are the same.

If you add a suppressor, you might need to change the locking piece in order for it to reliably cycle. As I recall there were three different locking pieces with a slight difference in the roller angle. The info is readily available regarding which one that you will need.

CDJ, that's a sweet looking gun!
