Over the last two years I've had 15-20 mounds pop up. I treat with ortho max granular but it never seems to kill the mounds. I thought I would get a jump on this early so any and all recommendations welcomed.
this is good, also there's some stuff called Terro to put in the house it's natural non toxic to humans and pets, but man the ants line up at this stuff and lap it up like drug addicts then they take it back to the colony and kills it off, Terro might even work if put it out by the mounds never tried it but it will take care of the ones that get in the house.I'm not sure about long term control and about the ants here but in FL I used to use Bayer fire ant killer. Went on the mound dry and started killing right away. It was good stuff.

Wait, What?
Tiger brand fire ant powder. Usually find at agri supply, big blue, or other farm stores. We get it at a local auto parts/hardware store.
The stuff works and works well....So do grits, FWIW..... I think they eat the dehydrated grains and they swell up and pop....
or "poop"....

Hahaha. I just googled this and came away with another alternative that I want to try.Plain GRITS

Mix cornmeal with black powder. Pour around the mound. Come back the next day when it's all gone. The pour a new trail and light it.......kaboom.
