Recovery time?
Anyone took a look at NOLA lately?
They still have not recovered!
Thats what I expect in the event of a large scale disaster.

We have a better chance if its natural disaster, other countries would be more likely to help.

If its conflict related then no help is coming.

If its economic then a few countries might try to help but there wont be enough resources to do anything major.

I dont sweat over the conflict in the middle east, I agree its a tinder box but they fighting has been going on a long time. I think it would scare me more if all the arabs put down their weapons and promised peace! I dont want to get too political here but if we back a side over there it would be wise to back Israel, better to be on the side that will win!

There's a lot going on in the Middle East right now, revolving around Iran and Syria. Last time I heard, we had the Bush and 8 cruisers/destroyers sitting off the Syrian coast, waiting on **** to go south. This was about a month ago. Rumor is that all the British/Israeli and US intel operatives in Iran had been captured and not heard from in a long while. In the meantime Iran HAS nuclear warheads, they just can't seem to attach them to missiles without catastrophic damage (no nuclear detonations, but big time explosions nonetheless). If we go too far to back Israel right now, Putin will not hesitate for an instant to launch on us and China will side with Russia. Once Russia launches a strike, China will start dumping our Treasury bonds on the open market and completely destroy the US$ as we know it (think German deutchemarks circa-1985).

It will indeed be a major catastrophe for us.

Umm. The mere existence of Israel is owed to the fact that we keep them around. They don't produce anything, have no natural resources, and no money of their own. Aside from the fact that they have a bunch desert where we need it, how does that make us better for supporting because they will "win?"

No need to educate myself on USN deployments. I did 2 of them myself and I can tell you from experience that we didn't hang out off the coast of Syria or any other nation very long. Well except that one time in September 2001. The typical carrier group deployment for the past 10 years has been pretty much haul ass across the Atlantic, cruise through the Med, get through the Suez canal at the first window and get into the Persian Gulf. Seeing as how the Bush, at my last update anyway, had not gone through the Suez and are hanging out on the Eastern end of the Med, something has changed and the Joint Chiefs want some major forward presence there.

I'm not saying the entire world is going to end. Look at recent events in the region though, then look at who has Israel's back. We don't and that's for sure, particularly given the Obama administration's lack of support for them since day 1. They are very much a cornered animal right now, with Iran in possession of assembled nuclear warheads and a not to long ago statement from Iran's leader that he desires to wipe Israel off the planet. Israel has shown in the past that they will in fact execute pre-emptive strikes, against Iran no less, in order to defend themselves from a threat. Now that their long time best friend has shunned them, I fully expect something from them in the next few months. Once that happens all hell could break loose. All the Muslim nations surrounding Israel just might say to hell with it and throw what they've got at Israel.

But sure, go ahead and roll your eyes like a teenager who just heard something they don't want to hear. Just don't ignore the whole big flick while you're at it.

A little update. It appears Bush will be home next week I'm unsure what carrier will assume 6th fleet duties. Currently the Lincoln is on a world cruise on her way to Portsmouth for refueling. The Vinson is underway, as is Stennis. Stennis is in the Persian Gulf currently which means they are 5th fleet. Bush is hauling butt for home which means they will shortly be relieved of 6th fleet AOR.

Economic collapse will NOT be recovered in a year. We have been in a "recession" for how many years now? Think about that and realize then that the dollar hasn't yet collapsed. If its an economic collapse, I believe it will be more on the lines of a decade.

As for an emp strike, well thats all depended upon the preparedness of the gooberment. Remember, we do not take an emp strike seriously in this gooberment at any time.

Why an emp strike instead of all out nuclear devestation? It's better to kill just a vast majority of the people and leave the infrastructure intact so that you can move your own people in and use the natural resources and the farmland. If you have read Mr. Forstchen's book, then you might realize that an emp strike against this nation is about as good as you could get. Why kill the cow for a hamburger today when you can kill the chicken and have milk from the moo moo cow?

I consider the economic and emp scenario far more likely than anything else. They both leave you with a weak populace and an exploitable gain.

Economic and EMP are the real worries. We could see 10+ years of **** in an Economic collapse and the stone age if EMP's are involved. If you can learn to live off the land and without electricity, you stand a far better chance than others. You take electricity away and the US becomes the Congo in 5-7 weeks. I guess if I really am honest, I think the world needs to shed the system that is enslaving mankind under debt and worry. I welcome it. It will not be pretty, it will be horrific, but it is the only way we will ever be free again.

I feel were minutes if not seconds from midnight. If israel invades or attacks Iran we will stupidly back them and when we do China and Russia will strike with nukes. With US society in the shape it is in now I truly believe it would never fully recover. We have fostered a welfare state where a large population only know how to wait on a check or government assistance. The first time our great society misses a payment there will be robbing and looting as we have only seen in the limited area of New Orleans. This country would be in a serious mess for a very long time. We cannot depend on anyone but our selves.

I think this is right, and maybe China does not but only if they isolate themselves.

But if its a fast event only in the US, then it could be a a short recovery but if its a long downward spiral that takes the world with it, I think it would be a long recovery decades maybe centuries...
