got a call from acquaintance who wanted to know if I'd be interested in a 380. He said it was a Colt Mustang, so I went to see him. What he brought out was a blue series 80 Mustang that he bought new and had never fired. Had 2 boxes of CCI hollow points, Biancihi holster and 2 mags. Having never owned one I took it at a good price. Anyone have much experience with these? Do they tend to be pretty relaible? I looked at Greensboro show and the least expensive one I saw there was $550 and it was pretty rough. Man i only wish he hadn't misplaced the box for it. Appreciate any help or advice.

Nice find....be sure to post pics!

They are very nice little pistols.....pretty soft shooting for their size due to the Locked Breech design. Bout the only thing you need to watch for is some had a bad habit of allowing the clide stop to opo out while firing......rare but it did happen. I sold one a couple years ago and hate myself for it since it was a nearly mint factory Nickle version:

I have a Colt Govt Pocketlite 380 that I bought new. The Mustang and the Govt are basically 1911 design pistols with 2 main differences - they are blowback instead of locked barrel and there is no grip safety. The Govt has a barrel bushing, the Mustang does not. Both models come in blued steel, stainless steel and aluminum (Pocketlite). They are very accurate and soft shooting. Great carry guns. Lately, they have been selling for $700 to $1,000. (Ad - Mine is for sale. I need to thin the collection a little. Have 4 Colt magazines, 2 barrels, case, manual for $850 FTF in Raleigh)

Nice little pistols. I had a steel framed stainless one but traded it off several years ago. The way they are priced now I should have kept it (same old story.)

I never was comfortable carrying it in my pocket...wanted it cocked & locked but didn't like it that way in my pocket since it had no grip safety. I also didn't want to carry it with a empty chamber and have to rack the slide if i needed it. Also didn't want to carry it with one in the chamber and hammer down.
