I would like a shotgun under my AR.

Just a guess but it sounds like it'd be legal as long as you had it mounted on the AR and the measurements are over mins. Just a guess though.

N.C.G.S. 14-288.8(c)(3) prohibits certain
short barreled firearms:
Any firearm capable of fully automatic fire, any shotgun with
a barrel . . . of less than 18 inches in length or an overall length
of less than 26 inches
, or any rifle with a barrel . . . of less than
16 inches in length or overall length of less than 26 inches . . . .
A rifle is . . . a weapon designed . . . and intended to be fired
from the shoulder.

If my memory serves me correctly, you can build it but have to register the shotgun on a Form 1 as an "Any Other Weapon" or "Short Barrel Shotgun" due to the overall length falling under the 1934 America Sucks Act.

Demon, would this be legal without the AOW or SBS if you used an uncut Mossburg JIC pistol grip shotgun without the grip? Just curious. The barrel in the pic looks REAL long on the shotgun.

I think it is entirely up to the whims of the NFA Branch at the ATF and would require a signed letter from them to be used as any sort of defense should someone stick a pistol-gripped shotgun underneath the barrel of a rifle.

One reviewer might say it is legal whereas another would say it was illegal. The Justice Department would only need the testimony of the "it is illegal" guy to send you to Federal Bureau of Prisons for around 17 years. The opinion of the other guy is irrelevant.

You having a paper clarifying their statement is another issue altogether and, unfortunately for the rest of us, only applies to your specific question in your specific instance and your letter could not be used to defend anyone else.

If you write the ATF and they say it's okay and you post the letter here (as has been done elsewhere) and one of us does the same thing your letter says is legal then we can still be prosecuted for a criminal act, since your letter is specific to you.

When encroaching on NFA 1934 stuff there is no actual guideline or set of rules. The ATF really does make this stuff up as they go and there is no way to say "You'll be fine!" or "You will definitely go to prison!"

i agree with this. your best bet is to make a really good drawing of exactly what you are wanting to do, find an internet pic as similar as possible to what yours would be, and then make sure you include every dimension possible in your description, send it in and ask for clarification. like demon said, it would only matter to you as no one else could use that paper for a legal defense.

no heavier then an M4 with a 203 I'd guess

True Masterkeys are only about 17" long, therefore you must have the right paperwork to have it, like any other SBR.

Feel free to get out a zip tie and attach your Mossberg pump. As long as it meets the minimum length described above, you are good to go. I will, of course, feel free to laugh while you try to shoot it.

Don't use a mossberg 500, you won't be able to get to the safety lol. The Rambo gun actually kinda looks like a maverick 88 with the fore-end, but I could be wrong. Mavericks have the safety on the trigger guard.

That's a pic from Predator I believe. Good point on the Mossy. That would be dangerous as hell.

I'm pretty sure you'd have to have an AOW stamp to do this legally.

I think the whole idea is kinda impractical. You're doubling the weight of your AR and making it muzzle heavy as hell. Also any mount is going to be questionable at best. Think of the beating your aluminum reciever is going to take from a 12ga recoil, especially high brass. Those master keys are short and light and they load lighter rounds. To each his own though. I am interested to see if it works out for you. Keep us posted.

The gun in the picture has an 18.5" barrel on it. I'd have to measure the Mossberg receiver when I get home but you basically need the receiver to be 7.5" or more to not have an SBS.

As for attaching it to a rifle - sounds like the whole setup may fall into the world of AOW. As everyone else has said - get a letter from the ATF.
