Excellent job at Area 6 Kate! I had some friends there but I shot a match in Rocky Mount and worked a NRA Women on Target event at our range on Sunday.

Hey, don't worry about where you placed. You'll move up the list with experience. Just hang in there - keep practicing.

The first NC Sectional Championship I ever shot, they posted the scores on a shed wall on like six foot long paper for the mandatory hour. My son - then 10yo - and I worked our way up in the crowd, who were peering up towards the top of each list when my son loudly announced "Hey Dad, here is your name way down here." - HUSH BOY! I coulda died but everyone got a laugh out of it. I've improved a little since then, not much, but a little

It was Stage 8, Bay 2 - on a stage named Chop-Chop.

You raised the guillotine to open the shooting port:

Chop Chop
Stage Designer: Cindy Noyes & Larry Turner
Scoring Method: Comstock
Targets: 6 Classic, 2 Poppers
Points/Rounds: 70 Points/14 Rounds
Start/Stop: Audible/Last Shot
Penalties: As per current edition of rule book.
Starting Position: Standing outside the shooting area,
facing downrange, toes on marks, hands relaxed at sides.
Pistol is loaded and holstered per ready condition in rule
8.1.
Stage Procedure: Upon start signal, engage targets as
they become available only from within the shooting area.
PP1 activates swinger T2. PP2 activates swinger T5. Pulling
the rope handle opens the port.
The real question is: did you have to hold the handle down while you shot the entire stage all strong handed?

LOL, That was one of my worst stages besides the all steel. But not because of the prop, but my gun had some issues and I spent over a minute trying to figure out what the deal was... anyway, I ended up using the prop to clear the gun - then they stopped me argue over weather or not that was legal and then decided to give me a re-shoot, which wasn't much better because I had more gun issues!!!!!!! And no, you just pull the rope and shoot the first few target and a steel, then move to the left and shoot, then over to the right. Right afterwards in the same area as Chop Chop stage you walk a few feet and it was a Classifier stage! Again, I had trouble with my gun, which made my classifier awful.

Anyway, I posted the picture first because it was funny and it kind of fit the trouble I had with that stage!

We call that sandbagging!

Every time I crap out a classifier, I just say, "oh well, I guess I'll stay a "C"
Grrrr... well, I would have shot it better if I could have. In fact, I was really hoping to do well with that since I am not even classified to begin with! That was the first one I had ever shot!

Anyway, I was so frustrated with the whole thing.

Believe me, this won't be the last time you are frustrated with the whole thing. Just remember to have fun. Don't put yourself under a lot of personal pressure to perform to a set of criteria, especially something that you observed at Area 6. USPSA Area and Sectional Championships bring out some very, very good shooters. It has taken me four years to get to mid-pack and I thought I'd never get it.

You just hang in there, keep shooting matches, index and dry-fire practice at home (remember the safety rules, don't wanna shoot the TV or worse) and the results will come.

You go girl. 8)

Do they let high cap 1911s play? Any shoots in late Mid to Late May?
Max mag length is 170mm. But yes, USPSA has a division that fits most handguns.

Most USPSA "Open" guns - like Brenainn described shooting for fun are 1911 style frames opened at the grip for double stack. We call them "race guns".

Most stock 1911s shoot in the Single Stack division.

Most USPSA (and IDPA) matches are open to the public and are held at least once per month. Just google them for more info.

Double-stacked 1911s don't have to shoot in Open. Open is for compensated guns w/ optics. If you shoot iron sights and no compensation you can shoot in Limited or Limited 10 (just only load 10 rounds in your mags).

I shoot a Brazos Custom (Well worked over STI Edge 2011) in L10 and Limited.

You're lucky you got the reshoot, but too bad about the gun troubles on the second try. :) Can't use anything to clear your gun. I had to walk off a stage at NC Sectionals last year. I hate when something like that happens.

FYI: You also only get 2 minutes to fix a problem. So once you hit two minutes you walk off the stage anyway.

I agree, and good point. Brenainn described the gun she shot for fun as having optics, hence the reference to "Open".

I'm proud of ya. I think you did great. Sounds like alot of fun but I gotta ask what type firearm was you using to have so many problems.
Well, I own a Dan Wesson, but when I got to the match the day before, it was having issues with the trigger and hammer ... so someone let me use their 1911 45 single stack Springfield backup gun. It had a HUGE (long) trigger and felt a little different than my regular gun. So the Springfield was the one that gave me so many problems. Some people said it could have been grip safety, others couldn't tell... I'll never know cause it wasn't mine, but I think I would have done much better if I'd had a decent gun - oh, well, you shoot, you learn!!

And thanks for all the kind words everyone... I am indeed hopelessly hooked - in fact, I was so into it that I was just wishing I could do the whole thing over again... :D

I did have so much fun. But most importantly, I love the people of the sport. Everyone feels like family and yes, everyone is there to compete, but really it's all about friendship, encouragement and just coming together to have a "blast" shooting!
