I'm not positive, but I would think that if there was a standard, free-float tubes would be able to be ordered without a barrel nut. You may, however, be able to swap within the same manufacturer's products without changing barrel nuts(DPMS to DPMS).
 
Unless you need a whole lot of rail space you are better off getting the Troy TRX Extreme (or VTAC version) or the MI SS-Series. They are both in a $150-170 range but so much lighter than anything else, and they look better, etc.
