The MagPul case does a good job of protection. It's not an Otter or Life but I don't want anything near that big. If you get one get the Field case, not the Executive. The Field case provides a buffer around the screen so if you sit your phone facedown on a table or drop it face down the lip of the case will protect it. The Executive is flush so it doesn't really protect the front and if you sit your phone face down it might get scratched.

Have a Field on my iPhone 5S and have had them on phones since they came out. The original cases had problems (were too loose..let dirt in behind the phone) but the 4, and 5/5S cases have been great.
Agree on Field over Executive. They actually do not make the Executive for the 5/5s so no decision to be made there. I had both for my 4S and definitely preferred the Field. A bit thicker and as you mentioned the lip was a nice added feature, plus the P-MAG like ribs offer the perfect level of grip for me.

so does the samsung s3 case have a hard case and screen protector over or under a silicone peice like the otter box? Also does it come in different colors or all just one color

I believe the Bump version does have the inner liner but no screen protector. The iPhone versions comes in several different colors. All that the Magpul furniture come in plus some additional so I would assume the same will be the case for the Galaxy versions.

The Otterbox has saved my iphone on several occasions.

BUT the REALLY awesome thing about the OB is that it sticks to money, so when you pull yer phone out of your front pocket, it drags your bankroll out with it, thereby making someone's day when they find it.

The downside is you then can't pay your phone bill.

Mine will catch my debit card/SCDL/CWP (or whatever card I've got) flush with the screen and pull it out of my pocket and make me think for a second I somehow changed my phones' wallpaper

I don't understand all this "Otters are too big" stuff. I know they make huge everything-proof ones, but mine is barely larger than the phone...

And I've only seen the Magpul cases at PSA or other gun stores. My Verizon didn't carry them the last time I went.

I haven't looked at them much as the Magpul Field and Apple leather cases work perfectly for me so no need to, but the ones I've seen aren't nearly as slim as either of the two I have.

Yup, and that is likely to be the case going forward. They are a firearms accessory company that happens to make an awesome phone case so I don't think it likely that they will ever be in the carrier stores or big boxes like Best Buy or Target.

Still need to add more phones to their list.
That may happen, but it will be a slow process. They have exclusively made them for the iPhone up until this point. If you look at what is out there, iPhones and Galaxy's cover the vast majority of the smartphone market (for folks who would purchase cases at least) so it may not make fiscal sense to make many more.

But, I guess if you're around conditions where the phone could take a dip in liquids, that case is really the only option aside from leaving the phone in the truck!
Otter box armor series, most rugged case I have seen and waterproof. Only down size is the size.

How do these Magpul cases stack up to the otter box?

Magpuls and Otter Boxes are in two different classes. Otter boxes offer more function over form. Magpuls offer more form over function. By function, I mean protection from hard hits and other abuses. Magpuls still protect, but they don't have as much buffer space around the phone as an Otter Box.

I couldn't have said it better myself. If you work outside, in a factory environment or are just particularly clumsy the OB's may be your best bet. Most desk jockeys will find the MP's provide more than enough protection while still maintaining a very slim profile.

Yeah I had a magpul on mine for a long time and my wife still does.

Steve summed it up well.

The main reason I switched to lifeproof had more to do with my time off than my time at work. Tried an otter box and could not believe how much bigger it was.

The lifeproof felt about as big as the magpul but I don't have to worry about my phone at all.

I just wish someone would make a PHONE that was tough with the power of the samsung or iPhone (funny the iPad, auto corrects istuff spelling) I personally don't care for the iPhones used to have a galaxy though. Broke three otter boxes and four of that phone in it.... At least they were company phones lol.

Yes I'm hard on phones. I gave up and went back to my Casio commando. No case of any kind, takes the same abuse, but it's still tickin. Plus it's full on waterproof and easily fits in a pocket. To bad it's slow as hell and glitchy but at least it's bombproof.

If they come up with a hardcore galaxy then maybe I'd be willing to drop pistol type money on some technology that will be outdated next year. Protective cases be darned. Although I like the magpul looks way more than the otterbox.
