This might have been posted before if so sorry.

What are the rules and laws in SC on making your own gun for your self. Say milling my own 1911 lower or AR 15 lower and then buying parts to finish it. Do you have to have a manufacture license or do you have to register it? Im building my machining skills and thought this might be a fun thing to do but i don't want to get my self into trouble.

You can buy receivers that are partially completed (70% or so) and finish them yourself. They do not require a FFL to buy them. My understanding is that you can make a firearm for yourself but you can never sell it unless you have manufacturing license.

No federal law against it. If it's legal for you to own, it's legal for you make. You cannot make a gun with the intention to sell but you can legally sell anything you legally own. It would have to be marked with the makers name, address and a unique serial number if you transfer ownership.

Your state and local laws may vary

Thats what I thought I remembered reading years ago but I had
forgotten. Do you know of any good suppliers of these lowers?

i have 2 0% forgings for lowers that i plan to make some point in the future. they are hard to come by for some reason. i picked mine up from Spikes Tactical a while back when they decided to sell some. You might give PSA a call since they make their own lowers. Tell them its for a paperweight.
