I won't sleep well tonight until I know that no frogs were harmed like last time...
I think he was listening to a bar story from some old bat...

Growing up 30 miles from KSC was a treat that I have only recently come to recognize. Now that the shuttle program is gone and there's nothing more to be interested in for manned US flight. Being able to step outside for 5 minutes and watch a launch at any time of the day from pretty much anywhere in Central Florida was awesome. A space shuttle night launch was an incredible experience to witness. Even from 30 miles away it looked like the sun coming up. Being out at the coast to see it was surreal.

The highlight of my space shuttle viewing was scoring Congressional VIP tickets for STS-115. Watched the launch from 3 miles away.

Took the kids out to a field and watched it go up. We saw it within about 20 seconds of launch. Couldn't believe how well you could see it. At one point it really sparked up a bit. At first we thought it blew up but listening to the launch director it was a stage burnout (if that's the right term). We watched until it entered the coast phase and lost it. Very cool to see!

There's another launch scheduled for 12/15 a little after 10pm

Shame I missed that last night. Any idea what the payload on that rocket was?
something like 16 satellites the main one being an Air Force research satellite, not sure if the others were communication ones or what. I work nights so I missed this event...
