My GF went to the Dr recently because she is 35 weeks pregnant

In the line of questions she was asked if there were firearms in our home (Don't understand the relevance during pregnancy) Was this question asked because she is on a state ran medical program (Medicaid)? Had she had her own private medical insurance would they have asked that question? I found it quite odd and I had no idea until I showed her an article that mentioned medical personnel asking about firearms in ones home, she said that they did ask her along with a whole line of other questions. I find this intrusive but I tend to overread and analyze things. Should I be concerned?

This is another one of the "new" things the government is expecting the medical community to participate in. Some doctors will ignore it, others, like hers, obviously won't. My teenage son was asked all kinds of goofy questions in my presence for a sports physical by a Doc who I know and like. It is government healthcare related.

You have the right not to answer that question I hope she didn't it is very intrusive.

Kinda along these lines- at our 1yr (or so) checkup for our little one, there was a similar question, were there any firearms in the house. The wife didnt really notice it, but I told her to leave it blank or tell them it non of your business. The doctor claimed it was because of it being a lead thing. We have our own insurance through work, but youre not alone.

Doctors will talk to you about keeping the guns locked up with kids at home. It's a no-brainer to many of us but there are a lot of people that don't do that. It's not hard to find stories of kids finding a loaded gun at home and getting hurt. You don't have to answer. It's just one of those things.....

I would hope not either, I do not understand how this is all being allowed to happen.

Hope not. My only point is that if your medical record indicates that you own firearms, and it is electronically accessible by the insurance company or the government (O care), then we are possibly one step closer to a universal gun registry.

you really think that's all it is? the doctors are being asked to report if soandso has firearms if I read a story on this right some months back. I think it goes beyond just them saying keep em locked up

Where do you begin though? I want a better country for my children but I wouldn't even know where to begin. Our rights are being stripped away while our soldiers are oversees fighting to give other people rights. Where does the sole individual begin? These are the beliefs that I wish to instill in my children that 1 person CAN make a difference but i do not know where to start.

Because nothing is being done to stop it

Was that sarcasm? Do you feel as though I should thank you because my GF is on Medicaid and some of your tax dollars are contributed to that?
If it was, it got lost in that he forgot to look at your location, only an assumption on my part, but since they are a Grass Roots North Carolina member, he/she is from North Carolina and not SC and that they are not using any tax dollars to help a couple in need of some support from their state. But either way it was rude.

If there is anything that I can do to help even being from NC, let me know and congrats on the new member of the family coming soon!

Thank you so much, I (and my family) SINCERELY DO appreciate the offer. I have worked from the time I was 16 (35 now) and I never once felt that ANY of my tax dollars used to help others in need was wrong unless you are just a deadbeat who CAN work but chooses not to because someone else is willing to work for you. I am happy that there are state run programs to that help, I am happy and GRATEFUL for the WIC program and Medicaid program that I pay into with MY tax dollars, my GF's tax dollars. I am happy knowing that some of my heard earned $$$ IS helping a family in need but of course there is a flip side to that coin and some of my tax dollars are going to people who are quite capable to work but are just to lazy to do so. Some people work for a living and some people vote for a living, I myself work for a living :)

GRNC, NRA, ect I think are the best avenues. We are in the same boat. Sometimes I wonder what America is going to be like in 20, 40, even 60 years for my kid. Standing for what you believe in and interacting with others that feel the same way will make headwaves over someone who beotches but doesnt do anything about it

A guy in Target Saturday in line in front of me was buying a stack of little paperback U.S Constitutions. I think he had the same idea as you.
I wanted to say something but wasn't sure what.
