I'm going to ask for a holster for Christmas. Not sure what I want to go with. Not looking for a tacti-cool drop leg holster but instead something for sometimes daily use and good at the range. No preference on material.

Please let me know what's worked for you and what you would recommend.

No that it matters a lot for the holster discussion but I usually carry a Sig P938. If I like the recommendation I'd also buy it for my other pistols.

Thanks guys!

Chief Jason on this forum makes a really nice OWB pancake that is comfortable and keeps things tight to your body.

I have a rick holmes kydex for a PPQ that is really nice and conceals better than the raven concealment that everyone goes gaga over. Not sure if he is still making stuff.

The one thing to be cautious of when purchasing an all leather pancake holster is that with less than the proper thickness and quality of leather, if you carry all day everyday, those "ears" can really stretch out over time. @chiefjason can expound on this better than me. I like keeping the business in house at CSC where I can, and I know the quality of the maker's products.

Is it too late to recommend chiefjason lol

A lot of makers out there are using 6-7 or even 5-6 for holsters. IMO, too thin for OWB for the reasons above. IWB you can go lighter. I'm using 8-9 oz hides. For the smaller guns I use the leather toward the center area. I stay away from actual belly leather, too flimsy. But use the spine for larger guns. I try as much as I can to fit the thickness/stiffness of the leather to the holster use. Thicker pieces on the back, slightly thinner sections for the front. The biggest difference in my holsters is the flat back. Super comfy.

I just bought this for my P938. Just received it, so haven't used it yet. I wanted the thumb break since i plan to carry cocked & locked. They're showing out of stock, but may have some more later.

FYI, I'll give credit where credit is due and criticize where it's needed. Anyone that would make an LC9 holster, shove a P238 in it, and sell it to you as a P938 holster is beyond sketchy IMO. I hope it works out for you. But that picture is frightening as a maker who takes my craft seriously.

And you guys are awesome. Thanks for the kind words. And glad they are working well for you.

I carry my Glocks in a duty style Gould&Goldrich pancake with snap closure. Unless its a combat or competition holster I like retention in all my OWB stuff.

Chief, do you make any with retention? If so Id like to get my next through you.

Suicide straps? I've done a few. Not a lot of fun to tinker with though. I know guys like them. But if the OWB is CC then it's redundant and unnecessary IMO. Yeah, you can train with them. Some do, some don't. Most are nervous the gun will fall out. Even in my lightest retention holster that I wear every day it stays put in the recliner. About as close to upside down as I want to get. lol

Like the post above about cocked & locked and wanting a strap. It's not the strap that will keep the gun from firing. It's the safety and covering the trigger that will. In fact, the only thing that strap does is cover the hammer, not stop it from moving.

There are reasons for a strap. But after talking to a lot of folks, it's mostly mental on their part and they end up not getting one after talking about them. But sounds like you have decided on them, not looking at them.
