So? They issue you a Competition License. That License comes with a rulebook. You commit a criminal action that is in violation of that rulebook, they have every right to suspend your license. Especially if the party or show in question in any way associated the NHRA's name with the criminal action!

The NHRA never had any issue with PINKS and many of those drivers had NHRA licenses and decals on their cars. But then again PINKS did not engage in illegal activity, they rented small local tracks and some big major ones.

Damn, I miss my youth, my street rod, and illegal activities.

The show does help promote a small sport in drag racimg, NHRA could do something to promote itself with the show. If they had a pr with some sense.

What does it cost to build a car to NHRA spec? Once I get my mustang set up, I'll take it to test and tune nights, but won't be running it for anything.

For the NHRA to be associated with they show, they would have to drop the "Street" image and go to a track (Yes, I know the Street image is largely faked). The NHRA really doesn't seem to care about the small/lower classes, that seems to be the IHRA's realm.

Which spec? Top Fuel? OH MY GOD! Pro Mod? Oh bloody hell! IHRA Stock? First born.

Maybe they are mad because they didn't get their cut since having an obvious NHRA sanction would make it far too obvious to the deliberately ignorant viewer that the show is not as "spontaneous" as they wish viewers to believe it is.
There is no such thing a "reality" TV when the cameras and crew are out in the open.

Bullshit, we grew up drag racing out on the trussle road in Scottsville KY. I don't remember anyone getting killed but there were several injured. Street racing was a right of passage growing up where i'm from. Hell that's what muscle cars were made for. I had a 64 Impala SS409 that would jump off the ground. We don't need a bunch of oldsters telling young folks they can't race. I started my son out at 16 in a big block 66 Satellite. And daughter in a 70 V8 Dart Swinger. Drag racing was created on the street.

Things changed in many areas. We grew up racing a stretch from a stop ahead sign to a bridge....exactly a 1/4 mile. The straight was 3 miles long so you could see traffic well in advance at night. Now there are two housing developments and street lights there. The area grew up and there is much more traffic. It was "at your own risk" in my childhood, but now it "at others' risk." The former I have zero problem with...the latter, not so much.

Sorry Curt but street racing is dumb... If you get your kids started out on a track they get to have all the fun with much less chance of killing themselves or someone else. All the REAL drivers go to the tracks. Of course, there used to be a lot more tracks to go out and play on. Going to the 1/8 with your muscle car was a right of passage, doing it on the street was just stupid. Still is.

Back when I had more money, more free time, and was less married I had a fun and fast car. Many people on the street tried to get me to risk my license, freedom, and life but thankfully my parents taught me better and if they wanted to race they could meet me on the track of their choosing. Funny, only one punk ever showed up and he ended up getting hooked on REAL racing.

The show is obviously BS and it promotes stupid behavior. I've got no problem with them coming down hard on the drivers... they're not role models I need my kid looking up to.

I think Pinks is into something, Street Outlaws is getting people interested, but the NHRA has a choke hold on things. Small drag strips like Mooresville are needed to get grassroots shade tree mechanics back into the game.

It is. There are local club races and tuner days there regularly.

Growing up we raced out by Lancaster Airport. Long straight you could see oncoming traffic long before it got there. Then moved to the old Shuffletown strip when we got older.

Kids gonna drag race that's why we give em fast cars. I guess the establishment wants to make candyasses out of all kids. And that is what they're doing. Next thing you know they'll be expelling boys from school for fighting & smoking in the restrooms. Hanky stompin liberals are gonna have the world full of pussys.

Kids gonna drag race? Great, but take it to the track. There are prob 30 plus drag strips in NC and SC that offer test and tune nights for a small fee. If either of my kids were caught street racing they would be racing NIKE's best from then on. Anyone, especially a person under 21 caught street racing should loose the privilege of driving for a minimum of (1) year. Zero tolerance for this careless act of stupidity. My family's safety shouldn't be compromised for the selfish acts of others.

Fighting? 30 years ago, absolutely. Now days it starts as a simple fist-fight then ends when the looser comes over and shoots the other party for the embarrassment of taking a whipping. It's 2015, you are better off keeping your hands to yourself.

Smoking? If you really think this is a sign of being "manly" and should be accepted as a good thing all I can do is SMH...

Having a car built like that and running around on the street like a hooligan is just plain irresponsible.
It's like having more than 6 bullets in a gun. It's just not necessary.
A person in good standing would never have such things and...

oh..wait a minute.
Never mind.

I guess the answer is to buy your kids a pink Prius & all will be well. And then wonder why our kids are running away from the bullies.

Pink Prius's for everyone.

Rewind to 1985 Gastonia NC I was a junior in HS. One hot June Friday night a friend from school who was a senior pulled along side me on the local cruise route. Hey man, look what Dad just bought me for graduation...It was a beautiful 1979 Z28 Camaro. He nor I had an idea he would die later that night in the very car that was supposed to have a positive effect on his life. Yes, he died in a brutal high speed crash. I can't imagine the grief his parents had to go through and more than likely have never gotten over.

Rewind to the early 80's Gastonia NC. I was in jr high. A friend and classmate had an older brother in HS and he and some buddies decided to skip an afternoon class and go play in his hotrod ChevyII Nova. Those kids died that day.

I have more examples of real life tragedy but won't bore you with the details.

Life is precious and I for one don't take the lives of my family members or yours for granted.

There is absolutely nothing about being responsible that makes you a pussy. I'd probably have half the grown men on this forum crying to be let out of the car if I took them down a rally stage in my old car. Horsepower and cars are awesome... but you don't go putting other people at risk. You might as well put a round in the chamber and shoot it in a random direction. You might not kill someone, but there's a darn good chance you will.

Maybe my buddy will let me borrow his track GT-R and I'll take you down to Carolinas Motorsports Park and you can see if you still think driving on a track is for pussies ;)
