Yeah,

22lr's will work. Its the use and getting the idea of how to use in your head, not the firearm per-say we are working on here.

Hey John, how about the AR mag gear? what do we need? Will we need to carry everything at once or switch between carbine/pistol gear?

Morning to lunch will be carbine

Lunch to dinner Pistol

First night fire Carbine, last pistol

So this will be done as 1 firearm at a time.

If that's all you have then you are fine. Lets not get in the mud with this. Get a good belt, install mag holders and go for it. The pistol will be in the holster the whole time.

The only change is if the rifle or carbine is in a rack or in your hands.

Lol

Have a weapon mounted light on the rifle. And a handheld light for the pistol.

Clean and easy.

Thanks for the input. I know a few guys are spend 400-600 on gear that they didn't have to do this course. Try to save money where I can.

I understand. I tell people that if its your first class go cheap and keep it simple. During the first class a person takes you get to see new gear, different ways to do things.

Once you find a system you like go and buy it. The only way to know is to do it, see it, and try it.

Rick makes some great kydex stuff, including a double double mag holder. Holds two AR magazines and two pistol magazines. He customizes each to your needs/magazines to be used. They are great and well made. I have a thread on the forum somewhere with pictures. I'll link it to when I get a chance.

I do believe Rick Holmes makes a very similar mag pouch at a reduced cost. And he's local and a member of this forum.

I gotta say if I was free that day I'd be buying a rifle to attend - unless an old Model 67 Winchester single shot would work ;). I'm not a rifle kinda guy and haven't shot one in a very, very long time so I'm sure this would be excellent.

Alright, I signed up for this course. Now I just have to figure out how to hang a light from my 10/22, along with add a sling, get some mag pouches for the .22 and 9 mags, and I am all set :D

What's your 10/22 setup now? Stock, mag type, etc?
The 25 rd mags fit in the nylon double stack pistol mags pretty well. You can get a triple for about $15 on Amazon. Lots of options for sling mounts depending on your stock/barrel.

I use carriers from KytexGear.com and Ready Tactical. Simple, cheap, modular, and effective while not taking up a ton of belt space. This is also the same stuff I use for CC and Matches.

Question... For pistol shooting I put my mags in bullets forward so they present properly for me. Yours look to be the same. Are rifle mags the opposite? I would think the motion would be the same. Do you flip them as you reload or something?

Bullets forward is most common for pistol mags. With rifle mags it varies as some folks prefer to "index" theirs as you describe while others like myself prefer to use a "beer can" grip as it works better for me.
