I thought this would have been posted by now, seems to be about as random as it gets.

I have had my CWP for a few years but don't carry nearly as often as I should, I need to make an effort to carry as often as possible.

This along with thousands of other examples we see every day could lead one to a padded cell wondering what is going on.

Random is only the state of an event until all the reasons are known. I'm guessing that there is some untold back story to this that only time will reveal.

This is why I only carry when there is a possibility of needing to.

Of course I could be wrong but I really don't expect any kind of story behind this. I think it was some punk that saw an opportunity, the victim probably resisted and the POS shot him.

Far from a professional but if you are going to die then take them with you into never never land. Being accutely aware of your surroundings goes a long way. Was at a "benign" location and had picked out a "safe" position should anything "go down". Sure enough a car spun around and a gun came out of the window. No shots were fired but I was already between a car and a large Popular. Had the shooting happened I would hopefully have been behind cover.
One can do a "pansy" pee in your pants begging act to throw them off guard to your intentions. IMO, one should do exactly what the perps tell you to do w/o doing anything remotely resembling defiance. Not even looking them in the eyes. Let them be the "Alpha Male" if it will keep you alive and well. Tomorrow is another day and you may have the upper hand next time.

Me too, which is why I carry whenever I can legally do so. If I knew the circumstances in which I would face trouble, I would just avoid those situations and would have no need to carry the rest of the time.
My thinking too except I think there are times when illegal carry makes sense. Not that I would do anything illegal even though it makes sense. Larry

If the perp had of looked like the typical thug, in the area this happened in, people would have noticed him like he was wearing a neon sign. If Mr. Barber had of been carrying, he might not have saved his own life but the perp might not have been hard to find. The comments that a couple of neighbor hood people made about starting to carry their cell phones when they walked was classic sheeple. I hope the police are able to find the perp and get some answers before they hang him at the corner of Trade and Tryon.

This is why I recently got my first few handguns and why I am diligently learning to be proficient with them ...

Face it, the world is nuts guys. I may not be able to stop such an event should it ever occur, but I have made the choice to not be a helpless victim .

Prepare, train , be alert, and pray it is enough.

+10000000000

Maybe I have watched the Bourne movies too much, but I am the same way. I take notice of everything around me now. My CWP instructor gave us several situations from his and others experiences. It really made me think about things. That's why I am going to finally get around to taking some defensive pistol and tactical pistol training. I also have been a victim of theft (twice at home (not in my home) and once in my truck). All of these things make me pay close attention to everything around me. Am I paranoid? Maybe. But hopefully it will keep me from being caught completely off guard.

Life insurance contract kill, gang initiation, simple robbery. I;d like to know the motive.
If you were a racist you would already have it figured out. My bet is there is not a major community in either of our present war zones that has the death rate of any of our major cities.

...His wife, Kelly Hoffer, said the fact that police don't have a motive and a suspect is still on the loose has her on edge.

"I thought about starting to carry my cell phone with me after that," she said.

Carol Cheslak said that's exactly why she had her cell phone during her morning walk Saturday.

"I just don't feel comfortable with what happened yesterday," Cheslak said. "I'm a little nervous."...

There's the back story, right there...

I have to wonder if those cell phones are properly registered...........the idea that any cowboy/cowgirl might be carrying a concealed cell phone makes me very nervous. :scared:
