Staying true to my moniker of "F'ing New Guy", I attended my first Pocket Carry Match today.
First:
Similar to my first visit to Caswell Ranch for a Ruger Rimfire Match, the folks running this are just top notch. Starting with the woman who runs the office ( sorry, I dont know her name), to the ROs to the other shooters- the people there couldn't be more helpful and newbie-friendly.
Second:
To me, this is a more real-life scenario than running and gunning IDPA with my G34 and 4 mags strapped to my hip. For me, a compact or subcompact is the gun I'm able to carry on a daily basis. So, no offense to IDPA (which I also enjoy), but this was valuable and eye opening practice for ME.
Third:
It was more challenging than I thought! Hitting cardboard at 10 yds with the long sight radius and light trigger of my G34 seemed like a walk in the park next to this. It made it clear to me that I needed more practice in this arena.
Fourth:
Fun scenarios. Um, starting from the driver seat of a truck, grabbing your pistol out of the glove box and engaging targets out the passenger and rear windows? Yeah, thats fun. It makes trips to the range to punch holes in paper seem like a boring trip to the library!
Fifth:
You MUST wear a Hawaiian/Aloha shirt for cover on your first visit. The extra attention you'll get is priceless :blushing:
Sixth:
If you conceal carry, you really MUST try something like this. If you dont CC, then do it anyways for fun and practice.

Check it out, and better yet, grab your pocket gun (I know you have at least one somewhere!), and come out to Caswell.
