Staying true to my moniker of "F'ing New Guy", I attended my first Pocket Carry Match today.

First:
Similar to my first visit to Caswell Ranch for a Ruger Rimfire Match, the folks running this are just top notch. Starting with the woman who runs the office ( sorry, I dont know her name), to the ROs to the other shooters- the people there couldn't be more helpful and newbie-friendly.

Second:
To me, this is a more real-life scenario than running and gunning IDPA with my G34 and 4 mags strapped to my hip. For me, a compact or subcompact is the gun I'm able to carry on a daily basis. So, no offense to IDPA (which I also enjoy), but this was valuable and eye opening practice for ME.

Third:
It was more challenging than I thought! Hitting cardboard at 10 yds with the long sight radius and light trigger of my G34 seemed like a walk in the park next to this. It made it clear to me that I needed more practice in this arena.

Fourth:
Fun scenarios. Um, starting from the driver seat of a truck, grabbing your pistol out of the glove box and engaging targets out the passenger and rear windows? Yeah, thats fun. It makes trips to the range to punch holes in paper seem like a boring trip to the library!

Fifth:
You MUST wear a Hawaiian/Aloha shirt for cover on your first visit. The extra attention you'll get is priceless :blushing:

Sixth:
If you conceal carry, you really MUST try something like this. If you dont CC, then do it anyways for fun and practice.

Check it out, and better yet, grab your pocket gun (I know you have at least one somewhere!), and come out to Caswell.

FNG- The lady's name is Bev, she is Dean's wife and a "mother" to all the shooters (she is also a fair to middlin shot).

DrivinDELZ-re:Daren, "he's wirey" a quote from Gene Hackman in the movie The Replacements, and yes he is unreal.

Guys, it was alot of fun. FNG and NELZ, you didn't shoot like new guys, and it was a pleasure to shoot with you. And FNG? Everybody should wear a hawaiin shirt to every match. You have inspired me to update my wardrobe. Hope to see you all again. Now it's time to go shoot an IDPA match.

Bev is a great range mom and friend, Daren not so much-just kidding Daren is a great guy and he shoots a little too. I have shot alot of matches with Daren he has taught me much about IDPA and being an S.O.

Yep,

PCCA always has interesting scenarios to keep your attention and it's alot of fun. Even with the brain farts(little round button drops mag and long narrow switch drops slide):blushing:.

My motto is: If ya can't be good at it, at least be good entertainment.

C.S.

If you get a bunch of guys to stand out in the rain with their pistols and gear getting soaked, it's got to be a fun shoot. It was my second match and I knew at the end of my first match that I'd be shooting it again ASAP.

+1 on the fun and hospitality, Dean and Beverly are great.

Now if we can just get Dean to us take the best 6 of 7 .... LOL

Thanks!

My 1st goal was understand the rules and be safe
2nd: no missed targets
3rd: start beating my own scores (improve a little each time).

So, I didnt shoot myself in the foot, so next I will begin working on #2.

I'd say don't come watch- come shoot! I shot it for the first time and had a blast!

Im sure one of the experts will chime in, but all you really need is the following:
1. weapon
2. strong-side holster
3. extra mag
4. concealment garment (anything from untucked t-shirt to shooting vest)
5. eye protection and hearing protection
