Just picked up my golden boy 22 mag at GM yesterday and went out to my BIL's house today to test fire it. I loaded it up with ammo and fired one shot, levered it back and forward and fired the second shot. When I levered it the second time, it jammed and I noticed that the second round didn't eject. I unloaded the gun and came home. Was I pissed, heck yes! Anyway, I was able to use the cleaning rod to bump the expended shell out of the chamber. I looked at the expended case and it looks like there are some scratches on the case but I don't know if this is expected since the case expands somewhat during firing. This ammo is old but I wouldn't expect it to get lodged in the chamber or am I just misguided? It is CCI maxi mag with a J15Y01 number on the package. The plastic box had never been opened. I noticed on some of the shells there are dark spots; however, the one that stuck was clean looking. Is this cause for concern? Any help will be appreciated.

Two things:

First, I'd give it a really good cleaning like ronn47 suggested..........then I'd try some new fresh ammo since you've seen dark spots on the older ammo you've tried that failed.

Keep us posted.

I ran a cleaning patch through it before I went to shoot. After I got the spent shell out, I gave it a good cleaning. Tomorrow I am going to try some Remington premier accutip-v. If anyone is wondering, my BIL passed away in April and he had over 1200 rounds of mag ammo and this is what I am trying to use. All but one of the plastic boxes was sealed. Question on cleaning; what is the best way, does anyone use the standard brass brushes that come in the cleaning kits, I am using CLP as a cleaner. Also for those cartridges that have the dark spots, would it help to clean them with some fine steel wool? Hate to discard them if they are usable.

If you have satisfactory results after the good cleaning and changing to a factory fresh good quality ammo, I wouldn't use that ammo in the rifle. I wouldn't want to keep trying to extract problem ammo from a new gun.

Perhaps try and clean it up with the fine steel wool and try it in a single action revolver or something if it looks ok. If you do have a problem, it would be easier to extract the casing.

I would just toss the spotted ammo.
More trouble that it is worth with a new gun.

Clean the action, barrel, ammo tube, relube the tube spring and action.
See your owners manual for tips.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.

Went back out this morning and tried some Remington premier mag ammo. Same crap different day. 2 of 4 rounds wouldn't eject. Got back home, called Henry CS and the gun is going back to them so their gunsmith can take a look at it. Can't tell you how disappointed I am, only had the gun a couple days and now have to ship it back. I realize shit happens, I just didn't expect it to happen this fast. Oh well, guess I just have to sit back and wait til it comes back.

Thanks for all the suggestions

When crap happens, it usually happens right out of the gate. They have excellent customer service. Be patient and curteous with them...they just may hook you up with some freebies for your troubles. :)

When you need to vent, yell and cuss here. I find that whenever I am courteous with customer service as well as easy to work with, I get rewarded. Like the $200 expedia credit I've got waiting simply because the resort booked me for a king bed instead of two doubles. The guy said customers usually get irate and since I'm a repeat customer, he'll ok me a credit. Awesome sauce.

I contacted the company president and explained the problem and my frustration. Didn't get irate or anything. He returned my email within 30 mins. Saying he was sorry for the problem and that he was going to send some comp items. I really didn't expect anything, just wanted the gun fixed and returned ASAP . Got an email this afternoon with a ups label. Got it packed up and ready to drop off at the ups store tomorrow. The prez. Asked for the serial number so maybe he will push the repair through. Hope. Hope.

Glad to hear you got their attention. Im sure they will do you right.
Concerning the dark spots on the ammo, I probably wouldnt be real concerned about them unless they caught your fingernail as you dragged it across it.
I think even if you had a little bit of drag over the discoloration? It should still extract ok. The yellow Boy, while its a fine rifle. Its not exactly a highly tuned, extreme tolerance rifle like some of the bench rest 22 rim fires that cost thousands.
Sorry to hear about your troubles.

Anthony Imperato is one of the best leftovers from quality American manufacturing business, which is mostly dead. He's a regular on rimfirecentral, and Henry's CS is second to none in any industry.

They also got flooded badly during Hurricane Sandy, and were one of the first businesses to be up and running well before the 'relief' money came. I support them at any opportunity, and hope one day they'll move out of NJ but I know that's not likely since nobody wants to leave home for a job.

Just got an email from Henry with a UPS tracking number and a return date of Aug 7. Just hope they found and fixed the failure to extract issue. Can't wait to get it back and run some rounds through it. Sent it back to them a week ago today so I'll call that pretty darn good service. BTW, got a nice orange Henry soft case and a couple of mugs as passification gifts.
