I want a report as well. I have been eyeballing this stuff for a little while (ever since I first read that they were going to attempt to recreate it). But I can buy 3 bottles of Green Label for that amount of money.
If it is excellent, I may have to splurge, but if it is a gimmick, no. Just because something is old, doesn't mean it is good.

First of all, I'm not a Scotch drinker. I was at a friends in laws for Christmas in 2000, his bro in law poured us some shots of some Johnny Walker something or another label (I think it was blue label), he said cheers and Merry Christmas. I slammed it like I would any kind of liquor in a shot glass, the dude freaked out. He said, this is sippin' whiskey, you gotta sip it, I said if I'm suppose to sip it you shouldn't have put it in a shot glass. He said it was $200 for a 5th. I'm a bourbon/whiskey drinker and I thought this stuff tasted absolutely horrible. I said gasoline tastes better than that (unfortunately I've tasted gas, I used to siphon gas from my mom's car to put in my gokart) LOL. I told him for $200 I can get 10 5th's of Crown Royal (at that time, now it's $25.95 + tax) and be perfectly content. Needless to say, the guy wasn't very happy with my comment and didn't offer me any more, which I was fine with that.

As an enormous Johnny Walker fan, this makes me want to cry.
I saw the documentary where they went down and retrieved it and VERY meticulously got the bottles out of the crate and packing.
It even got put into it's own case and private jet with the billionaires who funded the expedition.
They even covered how they planned to recreate it. They spent a huge amount of time going to different distillers looking for exactly the right scotches to make a blend which would replicate the flavor the most.
As far as I know there was no "science" involved, just good ol blending with lots of tasting and sniffing to get it right.
The indication I got from the show was that this big scotch guy thought it was a very good scotch and the sub zero aging seemed to give it added clarity and some unique flavors.

lol, please don't. I guess Scotch is an acquired taste, I've tried different kinds since then and just didn't like the taste. I'm more of a mixed drink and shots kinda guy, instead of sipping. Is Scotch just for drinking on the rocks or straight up, is there a good mix for it like some kind of soda? I've never tried it mixed with anything.
I'm not much of a scotch fan either but like a good bourbon or Tennessee whisky.
You can cut it with a bit of bottled or filtered water, I suspect most scotch people would frown at scotch on the rocks lol. I usually drink my bourbon on the rocks unless it's a high end one which is good straight. I don't have deep pockets though and drink too much of it to buy the really good stuff.
