I've decided to buy a kimber 1911. :79:I'm a very experienced shooter but not an experienced 1911 buyer, I've always shot someone else's. There seem to be a few dozen Kimber models, can someone recommend one that is:
-full size (5" barrel)
-is best suited for 230 grain round nose ammo (I'll probably shoot a lot of reloads with cast lead bullets due to the recent price increases and ammo shortages)
-adjustable sights are a plus
-is under $1100, new (not including potential tax or transfer fees)

Do kimbers have good warranty service?

This will be a target gun, not for carry, probably not even for defense.

Thanks guys.

IMHO....
Get yourself a Kimber Custom II. Anywhere from $750 - $1400 and fairly easy to find with adjustables.

Before you go all out for the Kimber, wrap your mitts around a Ruger SR1911, or a Springfield Range Officer. The Ruger is AMAZING for under $1000.00. I have seen them sell for $749 brand new. About the same price as the Kimber, and the RO has some NICE target adjustable sights.

I'm like you...I am NOT a 1911 officianado, but I do like them.

However, I AM a VERY astute Ruger enthusiast, and I have put pretty near 100 rounds through 2 different SR1911's and they are SWEET!! Very tight and solid, good weight and balance. Ruger REALLY did their homework on the SR1911.

I recently sold a Kimber Classic Stainless (Series 1) to a guy on this forum. It ran like a top for 10+ years for me, and I expect it will do the same for him. Interestingly, it hated lead and moly reloads. But anyway, the older Kimbers were/are great.

The new Kimbers I hear lots of mixed reviews about, and I think I'm with 1911gobang - I'd recommend a Ruger or a Springfield or even just pony up for a Colt if you're in the $1000+ price range and looking at NEW pistols. By the way, you can also have a custom 1911 built to your exact specs by the folks at Fusion or elsewhere - you just have to wait a few months for it to come in. They can do some pistols for near the top of your price range, depending on what you want. But then you can pick and choose *exactly* what you want.

I was hell-bent on buying a Kimber my whole life. When I finally had the money, did the research ended up with a Springfield loaded target. Got it for the same reason your looking, just target play. Spend the $400 I saved on ammo. So far its run like a top and it's a better shot than I am.

Stainless Target is the model you should be looking for if you want a kimber.

If you aren't stuck on Kimber.

A Springfield Range Officer also would fit your wants.

Either one will make you a fine 1911

I've heard some complaints about the Kimbers, and as for the Ruger? I fondled one and it really is sweet in my hand. The 'experts' that have reviewed the Ruger are all taken with it , too- one said it might be Handgun of the Year, and several said for the money it's the best deal going.
