If you pick the right cartridge to start with there is no need for a barrel nut. If you are determined to tinker, a good smith can set up switch barrels without a nut, just requires a bit more beefy tools.
The tool that does a lot of things well, rarely does anything exceptional.....you can quote me on that.

You have a fine action there DJ. Hope your build is everything you want it to be....The Defiance is a firm foundation.

6 x 47 Lapua would be my go-to unless you go for a magnum load of some sort. I Went 6cm, but I'm not truly in love w/ the hornady brass. if you go 6x47 all you need to do is just run the 6.5x47 Lapua brass down into a 6x47 and go shoot.

I'd say the 6 will edge out the 6.5 in most PRS style performance. If you take a load that is book safe and not working the brass hard the 6mm will win most every time. Where, I feel, the little 6mm loses out is at long ranges over 1000 yards where you're shooting into grass and you don't get any call on your shot. FWIW the 6.5 isn't much better and sometimes even a 300 or 338 wouldn't help in certain situations so YMMV.

oh yeah... forget the barrel nut crap.

It's really not. Savage guys can do a barrel swap in 30 minutes or less, at the range. If done right, it can be as versatile as the AR platform. I got an older beat up Savage sitting in my safe just for this future purpose.
if you spend your money on a barrel vise and action wrench you can one on any rifle barrel w/ a 1.35" Diameter action in less than 30 man... and at the range to boot.

Thank you. Been watching the Mausingfield m5 actions. Pretty cool tech that's been around for a long time.

Bartlein Barrel 1:8 twist Med. Palma contour.
Vortex Razor Gen II 4.5x27 scope cam. I mistakenly though (assumed) that production had made ground with the demand. I was wrong. However searching high and low I manage to find one in stock. I would be very disappointed in my self if I would not be able to compete in the Guardian match because of my screw up.

Using 1 inch high 34mm American Precision Arms rings (same maker of Little Bastard muzzle brake)
