... I walked into a local shop Friday evening and the guy behind the counter said, as I was clearing the door, "It's gone, but I've got another that is real nice." He was referring to a compact 1911 that I had made them an offer on a week ago.
The one he was referring to today he was removing from the counter as I rounded the display case. He laid it on the mat and before I could speak said, "This one belongs to the same guy and has never been fired." It was a nice looking gun. Phosphate type finish, night sights, extended mag well, etc. I pick it up and began to look it over. I first dropped the mag out into my hand and laid it on the mat. Then I locked the slide back and looked into the innards of this creature.
That's when I saw something that made me just put it back on the counter. Nothing bad now mind you, just brass markings on the breech face.
Now keep in mind the info volunteered and even written on the tag says "never fired".
Now I can't prove that this gun has ever been fired and it would not have mattered to me if it had been, but this is the same thing he told me about the one I made an offer on the previous week and it looked like it had been fired more than this one.
Have I been lied to? I don't know for sure, but everything I see says 'yes'. I'm not sure I would trust this guy as far as I could legally through him now.
Has anyone else ever had something similar happen to them and if so, how did you handle it.
I didn't challenge the guy, I just left.
