So, in the wonderful world of black Friday shopping I found a deal on SWFA's website for the SS10x mil-mil for $40 off, free rings, and a free level. I've got the mil-dot version of the same scope on my Savage Mcmillian .308 now and I'm going to switch it over to the .22 as a sort of trainer. Now, with all that said, I don't have a base on the .308 and was wondering if I should go with a 20moa base or just get high rings. Or should I just get the mil-dot version and just put it on the .22 to keep everything the same? It's already got mounts so all I would need to do is just choose a ring height. The sale is good until Sunday, so I've got a little time to decide.

20moa base both rifles

I would go moa-mil on the trainer. Mil-mil on the .308.

Why? So you can learn MOA & MIL

Standard - low ring height allways works on 42mm bells.

You have over 35 mils of elevation travel with that scope if I remember right. So, you can count on 15-17 mils elevation minimum after a 100yd zero. You don't need a 20moa base unless you want one or plan on running the .308 past 1000 yards. Nothing wrong having it either but not a deal breaker.

For now I think I'm going to go with just the scope deal and add the 20 moa bases down the road to keep the cost down. I do intend on getting the bases latter on, but saving a little bit now seems to be in my best financial interests. The wife said I can have the scope, I don't want to load up more than I'm asking for on the credit card. That's one battle I'm going to shy away from.

Just a little update on my purchase. The wife and I talked about it (gotta get her blessing to keep a happy home) and I went ahead and got a Mil-Mil FFP Vortex Viper for $500 from Amazon. I figure it's a better scope all around and the no BS warranty could also help if something were to go astray. So, now I just need to get a set of 30mm rings for the .22 to put the 10x on it. I'm excited now that I actually have a decent scope on a decent rifle. Now I just gotta become a decent shooter.

I have several sets of good of 30mm rings. PM me what height you are looking for and I'll see what I have for you. Just pay shipping if I have something that will work and consider it a "help a guy become a decent shooter" favor. All you will need is the base.
