Anyone have a Barnes Precision Lower? If so, which upper are you running. I know some components aren't compatible and I want to know what my options are.

I am running a Double Star 7.62 x 39 upper on my Barnes. Fits tighter then a baby's ass and it works fine.

I want to do a carbine. I have seen a pic of a Daniel Defense on a BPM also. I have been looking at 3 different ones. A BPM, Daniel Defense, and a Double Star. I'm kinda leaning toward the DD or DS.

Also on a side note. I was talking to a rep of Black Rifle works at a recent gun show. We were discussing the differences in the lower parts. He said that true mil-spec parts will have 2 stamps on the parts (hammer etc). He mentioned there are cheaper cast parts out there that you need to stay away from. He said that good parts are milled from stock and not cast. When I talked to Andrew Barnes he said lower parts are not milled, most are cast. I'm cornfused....:(

Take a deep breath and try to toss out any and everything the guy from BRW told you. Not saying it was all wrong, but it can be confusing to someone new to AR's as there is SO much information and SO many parts options available ....some good some bad.

Okay.....you have a nice lower in that BPM. As mentioned, it will fit and function with any decent/properly made upper you decide to mount to it. The best advice I can offer is to give an idea of what your budget for the upper would be and what kinda shooting do you intend to do with it? With that information its easier to sort out which upper would be the best option.
As for LPK's, stick to those from better builders and you should be fine. I have had the best luck with LPK's from Colt, DD, LMT, G&R Tactical, Spikes, and PSA. The G&R kits are hand picked using the best parts from a couple manufacturers to include LMT.....they are very nice! The PSA kits rival those of DD.....and at times I have wondered of they were the same. The last 6 or so lowers I have built used the PSA MOE Lower Build Kit and they have been nothing but excellent......great value and price!

Blame any mispellings on Autocorrect & Tapatalk

Don't get too hung up on 'mil spec' that mil spec package is way outdated. There are far superior parts than a usgi trigger, just do some real research and stay away from gunshow mall ninja commandos who know it all.

Lowers are either machined from a cast, forging, or billet. Most are machined from forgings today or cut from billet. I don't know any cast lowers produced today.

Wahoo, the PSA kits are likely left over FN parts. I've installed a few, they are ok, but again I hate the usgi trigger.

As wahoo said, stick to the 'players in the game' and you'll be good. And also realize you need to get parts that are engineered to work together, don't just buy a bunch crap from different places and slap it together thinking you have some hotrod shit.

Yup! That's why I'm here. I'm sure I will have a lot more questions as the build progresses. I just don't wanna throw a bunch of junk together and wind up with an AR that won't cycle. I don't need an AR paper weight.

Just don't get all hung up on the "if its not name brand then its junk" there are plenty of people out there that'll tell you how to spend money. Look for solid reviews on companies (like psa or Delton) that are not "top of the line" but have a quality product. As Wahoo stated if its rated at "mil spec" then it'll work with your AR.
And you're close enough, so if you need help with anything give me a shout.
