Any idea how long the last ban took to get through congress and then how long after that before it was in effect? I have an AR ordered with a 30 mag clip and it is supposed to ship Feb 4th. I just hope it can make it in time before the ban.

The last ban was on new production stuff, so based on that you are fine. Seeing as how congress can't pass gas without three weeks of debate on its volume, I think you are fine.

Now an executive order...that may be a different story.

It will be close... they're emphasizing speed here with this legislation... have seen 2 articles already this morning mentioning they're going after this quick and speed being of the essence. That being said, speed is generally an oxymoron in DC, unless a tragedy has just happened... then we got the PATRIOT Act in no time rammed down everyone's throats while NOBODY in Congress had time to read it before voting on it, so don't hold your breath that you're in the clear. Personally I would be a bit nervous on that time frame. Frankly I was getting nervous about a pistol I paid for 3 weeks ago that is just now shipping out this week (holidays and crazy sales made the whole process slow). Hopefully I'm overly concerned about the speed of all of this, but it is really disconcerting.

I don't see how it has happened once, much less enough times to become commonplace, for these lawmakers to vote on things they haven't read. How is this accepted? "Ok...Gun Control Bill coming up...30 seconds to flip through it then vote..." I just can't wrap my head around it.

Just curious who's giving specific build dates? I might want to get in line if there's a date certain I can expect to get my gun. The whole Troy/DSG fiasco makes you think.

Blame Tapatalk
Daniel Defense. I ordered in late December. Still deciding if $1799 was too much. Can cancel anytime for a refund. Could be a good investment if it is banned, though other things can happen (registration, mag limits on preban guns, special semiauto taxes etc..) Just always wanted an AR to go along with my other guns.

Because they all had their pork inserted in the back room deals and they do not give a shit about the remainder.

To answer your question..It was introuduced as a bill on 5-8-2003. It was signed by president Clinton and went into effect on 09-13-2004.

It was a direct result of the "Long Island railway massacre"
Thanks msy1973, I hope if they do get a ban through somehow that it takes just as long to finally be signed. The only thing I am not sure about are your dates though as Clinton was not in office during the years you mention?

When it gets introduced, it won't be voted on until the end of this month at the earliest in the senate, then to the house early Feb. IF it passes as written and doesn't go back and forth, it will most likely be 6 months minimum before it goes into effect. So, worst case is most likely around July or so, probably closer to the end of the year or this time next year.

I don't know guys, while I know we have to keep our eyes open, I am thinking the tinfoil is getting a little heavy. The more I read about Frankenstein's bill, the more I think it can't pass. Its too extreme, too crazy. I just don't see the support for it.
