Salient just released a new 1911. Love it. View attachment 94206 View attachment 94207

I know you said no 1911s, but I just saw this when exploring their site. I haven't seen their 1911 yet.
Call me crazy, but I don't like them.

What I would like is to send my own off to the custom shop for this:

Take a look at a HK USP Expert in 9mm. Comes from the factory with a lot of upgrades over the regular USP including a match trigger, upgraded target sights with micrometer adjustmets for windage and elevation, adjustable trigger stop, etc. I have an older Expert in .45 and its the most accurate gun I have, when I do my part it will make one ragged hole groups at 25 yds. The trigger and sights are superb. HK doesnt offer the .45 version anymore but you can get them in 9mm and HK as a $200 rebate on all new guns sold through Dec 31.

I had an interesting trade offer once, one of those with the jet funnel kit. It's a nice enough shooter.

The reason I'm nut swinging salient is I got to try their Tier 1 Glocks at Chris Costa's and Pat McNamara's courses and they we're phenomenal. I've used custom glocks before from many other companies, I've even done my own, but these are on a different level. They have a process where they heat the frame, and mate it perfectly to the slide, and they mate the barrels to where they are a perfect as well. They even go so far as to adjust the coating to where when the coating wears or is broken in, this is the point where the barrel is perfectly matched to gun. I haven't seen another company that has such an intricate process and attention to detail at least with glocks. They claim 1" group at 25 yards with this gun.

I haven't used their 1911's so I don't know much about them, but I do like Wilson Combats a lot, just not their price.

I would LOVe to shoot one. The fact that they (Salient) fit the barels to the slide and frame is neat.

Any other glock, xd, m&p or custom whatever plastic fantastic gets a chuckle from me when they start talking about "match grade barrels." Really? Match grade barrel? On a gun with tolerances so loose that you can push down on the hood with not too much force and unlock it? Yeah...that will do wonders. I'm not knocking these guns, just pointing out the reality of expecting some sort of miraculous "match fit" on a gun that requires no precise fitting to change parts. I'm not much of an in between guy. Just give me a stock glock with warren tactical sights, either that a full built Salient.

Went to the Charlotte gun show this weekend both Saturday and Sunday, handled lots of firearms, just didn't like the way the CZ's felt in my hand.

It was a great show.
Understand that. The grip works very well for me, but that dang short slide profile had me grabbing a handful of slide and frame whenever I did malfunction clearing drills. I could adapt to it and eventually make that stop, but the second I went back to a glock then back to a CZ...bam, handful of frame.
