Urban Angling in Charlotte...YES!

I sold a flyrod to a coworker 2 weeks ago, hoping to turn him into a trout fisherman, and I was surprised to find out that he has been out to a pond in the Ballantyne area that is stocked with bass and has a good catch and release policy. The pond is off of Ballantyne Commons Parkway near the AXA/Equitable facility, it would be the last right turn into the Ballantyne Office park if you are driving AWAY from the main Ballantyne Intersection towards Old Lancaster Highway. Great place to take the kids fishing after work or for a couple of hours on a weekend.

So I am wondering, does anyone else have a referral for any other good Urban Angling spots that are open to the public? Its not as good as a trip to the mountains but there is a lot of vcalue in being able to drive 15 minutes and get to catch fish all in Meck county.

Is this pond/lake posted as being open to the public??? It may very well be private property if its within an office park complex.

I have seen folks fishing at the pond on the McAlpine Creek Greenway near Monroe Road. I dunno if it's posted or not or if the fishing is any good.

... but i've caught stripers over 10#'s about three blocks from the SC State Capital in Columbia!!! :thumbup:

Be honest now, you were fishing the river and not some pond!!!! I've caught hundreds of stripers from under that bridge, and damned near lost my life one lucky afternoon!!!!! Have you ever been on that strech when the Murray dam opening hits????

You can also fish at the pond behind CMC University. I have friends that have been there plenty of times.

There is a nice little pond behind the Walmart in Whitehall commons, that is the intersection of south tryon and 485. It's right off of arrowwood. You can see it in the winter when the grass is short.

I've been looking for a place to take ny girls fishing. Would like to find a place that isn't over fished so that they stand a better chance at catching something.

Avoid the obvious: Reedy Creek Park, Franke Liske Park. The park I got married at, I have actually caught a fair amount if fish. Colonel Francis Beatty Park in Weddington I believe.
