Is the Sparc a good, budget optic? I saw a used one for sale on another forum. They seem to get some mixed reviews. With the Vortex warranty that transfers to the next owner, I thought it might be worth a shot.

Piece of Crap. The Newer generation of the PA MICRO and Bushnell TRS-25 Micro have been very reliable and great battery life. There really isn't anything between them and up to the price point of a Aimpoint Pro or Trijicon MRO that is better.
I wish I hadn't missed the sale on the TRS-25.

Can someone explain why it's not a good optic? Has anyone seen the torture test on it?
Sure. I have seen alkinds of tests done. Line the one the Army did that proved how much better the M9 is over the M1911. Or the tests showing the A10 needs to be replaced.

Then you got guys like me that have owned the product in hand and had three that's right 3 of them fail all on the first range trip. Each one was a replacement for the other failed optic.

The quality is low, the ability is junk. Sorry but they are crap optics.

Well I've had a different situation with mines and many other folks I know. We've had ours years and we hunt with em. I've dropped it off the 4 wheeler and truck multiple times, snow multiple times, and thousands of rounds. Always held zero and still on the same battery.

Glad to read that. I hope it serves you for many more years.

I've had three eat shit over time. Vortex fixed them for free.

Aimpoint is still the only brand I've owned that wasn't a complete headache at one point or another, and nobody will convince me that they can't afford one. If you want it for a range gun, sure... get a Vortex, and live up the warranty. But for any sort of defensive rifle, no. No one needs a red dot "right now", just save and get a good one at some point, or simply go without... Iron sights still work for fighting..
