i think alot of people are turning away from the AK because of ammo prices...i got turned on to AK's because i was buying 1000 rounds for $79. and i could just go blast away. i have ** AK's.....4 I've never even fired a round through

I've been looking at (and buying some) parts kits for the better part of a year. The parts kits with barrels are going for the same prices as assembled AKs. Once you gather the kit, receiver, and US made parts you'll spend 600-700 bucks! Sadly I'm putting this hobby on the back burner. Hopefully prices start to make sense again. If not I'll have to find something else to tinker with.

To be honest, I don't see parts kits coming down anytime soon. I could be wrong but I don't see it happening.

It seems like what ever it is has affected the SKS too.
Cheapest I've seen them is just over $300.

There are some under 300..but they are without receiver and barrel. I can order polish AKM kits for 249 from southern ohio gun.

That's true. But then you have to buy the barrel, receiver, and u.s made parts. It all ads up. Probably the cheapest You can get away with is 450 if you use a receiver flat (that's conservative because buying all the U.S. made parts adds up too) 550 if you use a Nodak receiver that is hardened right and do the finish yourself. 600-650 total if you have it finished professionally. You see we're going with this :).

I was just statin how much the cheapest parts kits are...I have no knowledqe at all of builds so I have shied away from them.

One question..if you used a blank and therefore it was not a reqistered firearm do you still have to comply with the rules on import parts?

doesn't make sense to me. they are much cheaper to produce than AR's and we are going to see production move to the states if supplies dry up. Now is not the time to purchase AK rifles IMHO. Especially when you can score an FAL or G3 rifle for almost the same price.

Are you talking about Arsenal AKs or the cheaper, Century-style builds? I just ask because I've wanted an FAL for a long time, but haven't seen anything for under $1,000 for quite some time. Cheapest G3-style I have found recently is more than $900 after shipping and transfer fees: http://www.rrcfirearms.com/pd-ptr-91-gi-rifle-308-semi-auto.cfm

On a far off-topic side note, I had a chance to buy a very nice FAL back in college from a fellow college friend for $350. He was as broke as me and needed the money, but I didn't have it either. I have few regrets about college. That is definitely one of them.

Back on topic, M70 PAPs seem to be a good deal currently. Affordable price, good builds and relatively cheap ammo. I haven't fired one but I read good things about them.

The real deal lately is the ak pistols for 399 from jgsales. Its a couple hundred better than anyone else at the moment.

maybe it's just my area but on Armslist the WASR's and Mak-90s are floating around in the 500's again... down from the 8's when I was looking earlier in the year.

Even century doesn't have them that cheap...theirs are around 500 each for the same caliber.
