I sold some collectibles today and I'm considering a new handgun. Between the S&W Shield 9mm and the Ruger LC9s, which would you choose? I have an SR9c and an M&P 40c (with an Apex trigger). For me, the Ruger shoots much better, and the trigger on the LC9s is supposed to be similar. Anyone with experience shooting both? I'd rather have something that is ready out of the box than have to swap a trigger, which I think I'd want to do with the Shield.

FWIW, I hated the shields trigger. I actually ended up selling it...

My wife has the shield, its nice, and is getting the Apex trigger kit next week. Plus its $10 cheaper than the LC lol.

But the LC is a nice handgun as well. But never shot one but have heard good things about it.

Where I'm looking, they are priced the same (Davidson's). I'd rather not have to deal with any mods to make it shoot better. I usually carry an LCP in a pocket holster, something sized like the LC9/Shield would be a smarter choice.

I have an LC9 (non-S) and a Shield.. Both are good guns in my experience, but I prefer the Smith.

1. More grip surface.
2. Sights are larger.
3. Softer shooter.
4. Trigger is better.

The LC9 is slightly smaller feeling is that matters.

Now, #4 is null and void I would assume with the LC9S, but I do not have any experience with it.

I'm my opinion you cant go wrong either way. Sometimes I carry both.

I prefer the Shield. Of all the subcompacts in that category I find it to be the softest shooting and most like a full size in handling. As always, you'll need to shoot them to see which shoots best in your hands. Make the decision based on that rather than what it feels like or whether small mods may or may not be needed

I had a LC9, traded it for a Shield. Saw the LC9S when I was trading it in, and it does have a nice trigger. But, it still has the magazine disconnect and thumb safety which I don't want/need.

Truth be told, stock for stock trigger the LC9S wins. But, overall the Shield is the better package, IMO.

What I did: Apex trigger kit, TruGlo TFO sights and some stippling. I can't see anything in this class that would lead me to trade the Shield with the modifications I did.

LC9s Pro has no trigger disconnect, or safety.
