Caleb and I will pick up almost anything shiny. Tonight I was sorting brass from shooting last Saturday and I ran across these two interesting creatures. I compared them to every applicable picture in the Speer's #13 manual and could not find a match.

The head stamp is "22" at the top, "83" at the bottom.

The case mouth is .32ish and the overall case length is .950ish

I have determined that they are not:
.32 -20 Winchester which is 1.3150 in length
7.62 x 39mm which is 1.5280 in length
7mm Remington BR which is 1.5200 in length

Does anyone know what the heck caliber they are?

It looks like it could be either a 30 Mauser or a 7.62 Tokarev.

Ah hah! That's exactly what it looks like. With the little dimples in the neck and all.

So, uhm, just curious, but is this a handgun or rifle cartridge?

handgun from tokarev and makarov pistols as well as some of the CZs

It was used in both, pistol made by several different countries and several carbines made by the Russians like the PPD-40. My brother has a CZ-52 chambered in that rd.
